Update on COVID-19 Contact Tracing of the Bukit Tiram Cluster
The Press Statement of the Director General of Health on 1st August 2020 on the Current Situation of COVID-19 in Malaysia states that the Bukit Tiram Cluster recorded its first case in Selangor (Patient 8977).
According to the statement, Patient 8977 had played host to Patient 8893 who is part of the Bukit Tiram cluster and who had visited Selangor from the 16th to the 19th of July 2020. Patient 8977 subsequently tested positive after developing symptoms while under home quarantine.
Data released today by the Ministry of Health reveals that based on Active Case Detection conducted, as of 12pm today, a total of 135 people have been screened, of which 124 persons have been tested negative, with 10 persons tested positive so far and 1 more person waiting results.
According to the above statement, Patient 8977 was under home quarantine from the time of identification as a close contact of Patient 8893. Being under quarantine, Patient 8977 did not attend Mass at any of the local parishes.
We would like to reiterate that our parishes should remain vigilant and adhere strictly to the SOP issued by the authorities and the Archdiocese to avoid the spread of COVID-19.
We further reiterate that persons with a higher risk (the elderly, children, persons with pre-existing medical conditions/are immunocompromised) should not be encouraged to attend Mass and participate in other public gatherings in our parishes.
Please be reminded that the Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur has dispensed the faithful from the obligation to assist at Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligations during this period.
Issued on behalf of the Archdiocesan Crisis Management Task Force.
