Communique: Update on His Eminence Anthony Soter Cardinal Fernandez

His Eminence, Anthony Soter Cardinal Fernandez, Archbishop Emeritus of Kuala Lumpur has peacefully passed on at 12.35 pm at the St Francis Xavier Home for the Elderly (Little Sisters of the Poor).

The Chancery will be issuing an official obituary and announcement on the details of the wake and funeral as soon as these have been confirmed.

His Eminence Anthony Soter Cardinal Fernandez received the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick yesterday afternoon.

While His Eminence’s condition is very weak, he remains comfortable and calm as he embraces the final leg of his earthly pilgrimage.

Let us all invoke the intercession of St. Peregrine and St. John Paul II as we continue to accompany His Eminence in prayer.

In view of the current COVID-19 situation, visitors to the Little Sisters of the Poor Home for the Aged in Cheras where His Eminence is being cared for remains restricted to family members and clergy only.

His Eminence Anthony Soter Cardinal Fernandez continues to be cared for at the Little Sisters of the Poor Home for the Aged in Cheras. He is alert, and his condition remains frail but stable.

His Eminence continues to enjoy receiving the messages and well wishes sent to him and would like to once again thank everyone for their prayers.

Further to the Chancery Notice of 27th December 2019, His Eminence Anthony Soter Cardinal Fernandez has received treatment with immunotherapy and radiotherapy and is currently receiving palliative care in hospital. His condition is frail and stable.

While visitation is currently restricted to family members only, His Eminence is grateful to have received your thoughtful messages and prayers.
