Editor

HERALD, the Catholic Weekly is looking for a creative, hardworking and detail-oriented Editor. The ideal candidate will work in a team environment, collaborating closely with the Editorial Management Board to produce the publication.

The ideal candidate thrives under strict deadlines, has good oral and written communication skills, a passion for clear writing, and an ability to shape stories to make them complete with a logical flow.

The Editor should have a strong knowledge of grammar and should be able to edit quickly while spotting and correcting mistakes. The preferred candidate will also have an eye for layout and design.

Responsibilities

The Editor will report to the Editorial Management Board and will undertake the following responsibilities and interests:

  • to ensure that the publication is produced on time and it's contents must be in accordance with the teachings of the Roman Catholic church.
  • to have a strong interest in current events, the ability to work well under daily deadlines and experience with desktop publishing programs.
  • to decide which reporters get to cover certain stories. Other duties might include selecting newsworthy stories. 
  • to collaborate with the Finance, Marketing and Digital/Social Media departments.
Skills/Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as an Editor in an English language publication.
  • Degree in Journalism, English or equivalent.
  • Possess good foundational knowledge of Social Media.
  • Must be a practicing Roman Catholic and have sound knowledge of the Catholic Church and its teachings.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Able to lead an editorial team of full-time staff and freelancers.
  • Able to work/collaborate as a team with all levels of the Church, i.e. clergy, religious and laity.

Salary:
Commensurate with experience.

Account / Administrative Assistant

We are a religious body and are in the midst of a restructuring exercise within our administration arm. We now seek an individual of high calibre and dedication to join us in the following capacities. This position is for our office based in Kuala Lumpur city centre.

Responsibilities
  • Company secretarial and treasury support
  • Banking database maintenance and liaison
  • Budgets-analytical support and coordination
  • Cash flow analysis
  • Undertake any other ad-hoc accounting tasks as assigned from time to time
Requirements
  • Degree or Diploma holder in Accounting or its equivalent;
  • Minimum three (3) years working experience in related fields;
  • Preferred age 30–45 years;
  • Computer literate and exposure to accounting software is a MUST;
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, and more importantly a team player; and
  • Able to work independently with minimum supervision.
