OBITUARY

Sir Tan Sri Lim Leong Seng aged 101 who held the position of Archdiocesan Financial Administrator and served in the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur from 1990 until his retirement, at the age of 99 in 2015, passed away peacefully in his sleep on 26th October 2017 at his home. He will be remembered for his integrity, generosity, commitment to work culture and initiatives in raising funds for charity, welfare, education and community work.

Sir Tan Sri Lim Leong Seng was a Travelling Auditor with the Cooperative Societies Department from 1939 to 1942. He continued as a Traveling Auditor from 1945 to 1949. Through a span of 18 years (1949-1967), he held many positions with the Inland Revenue Department with the highest being Director General and being the first Malaysian to hold this office. From 1971 to 1974 he was Tax Advisor to the Treasury at the Ministry of Finance. In 1975, after his stint with the IMF in Nepal, he was the Special Commissioner of Income Tax at the Office of Special Commissioners of Income Tax. From 1982 to 1992 he was with Price Waterhouse Tax Services, first as an Executive Director and then as a Tax Adviser.

As recognition for his service and contributions, he received Federal awards such as the Kesatria Mangku Negara (KMN), Johan Mangku Negara (JMN) and Panglima Setia Mangku in 1963, 1968 and 1970 respectively. In 1970, he received the Bene Merenti from the Vatican and he was once again honoured by the Holy See in 2003 when he was awarded the Knight Commander of the Order of St Gregory the Great which carries the title of 'Sir.'

A loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Sir Tan Sri Lim suffered two enormous losses in his personal life with the death of his second son, Francis more than 10 years ago and his wife Puan Sri Rosa Chow in 2013. He now leaves behind two sons, a daughter, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren to mourn his loss.

The details of the funeral and the wake of the late Sir Tan Sri Lim are as follows:

Wake services will begin this evening (Oct 27th ) at 8.30pm at 39A, Jalan Balau, Damansara Heights Kuala Lumpur and on Saturday, Oct 28th & Sunday, Oct 29th.
 The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 30th at 10am at the Church of Holy Rosary and thereafter to the Cheras Christian Cemetery, Jalan Kuari for burial.


His Grace, Most Reverend Julian Leow, the Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur and the clergy of the Archdiocese, extends condolences to the family of Sir Tan Sri Lim Leong Seng in this time of loss and assures them of our fraternal prayers and support.
