Viewing LIVE Mass from Home

In view of the spread of COVID-19, the Catholic Bishops of Peninsular Malaysia have suspended all weekend and weekday public Masses from 14th March till 6th January 2021.

For now, Catholics can view LIVE Mass made available through:-

  1. – brings you to the ArchKL YouTube Channel page
  2. – brings you to a webpage that has both the Readings of the day and also Hymn lyrics for weekend Mass.

After consolidating all of your comments and feedback, here are some basic recommendations and guidelines on how to follow ArchKL LIVE Mass from your home.

  1. Location
Follow the LIVE Mass from home with your family. Don’t view LIVE Mass while you are driving or when you are on the move, including while grocery shopping or shopping for essential items.

  2. Viewing the ArchKL YouTube Channel –
You can use your television (also known as Smart TV)  if it is connected to the internet, or your computer, tablet, or (the last and least recommended method) your mobile phone.

  3. Mass Ordinaries and Propers, Readings and Hymns
Some have requested these to be subtitled on the screen. Others are against it and prefer to have the video screen neat and clean. Some have made comparisons with other (arch)dioceses.

Technical equipment and capacities vary from diocese to diocese and it should be noted that we are not a media production house. With the limited technical equipment at our disposal and limited by what this equipment can do, we have opted to keep the broadcast of the LIVE Mass unobstructed with a neat and clean video screen.

For the readings please refer to your missal or bible.

The lyrics of hymns sung at weekend Masses will be displayed only at

The Ordinaries of the Mass are generally memorised by the Catholic Faithful, while the Propers of the Mass follow the instructions in the Archdiocesan Ordo and can be found in your missal.

All texts that are displayed at have to take into consideration adherence to prevailing Copyright Law.

  4. YouTube Captioning
Screen Shot 2020 03 26 at 2.16.15 PM 1YouTube’s own captioning (subtitles) are full of errors. These captions cannot be controlled from our end and are not provided by ArchKL. The display of these captions can only be turned on/off from your end. In the displayed image, you will find the control in the red circle to be able to toggle the YouTube captioning on or off.

  5. YouTube LIVE Chat
YouTube LIVE Chat is switched off from our end before the Mass.

  6. The validity of Viewing Mass Online
Although a broadcasted Mass is never a substitute for the obligation to assist/ attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation, Catholic Faithful of the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur have been dispensed from this obligation by the Archbishop. With the suspension of public Masses on Sundays and weekdays, watching a televised Masses could serve as a form of spiritual “devotion.”
