Social Media Workshop by Augustine Anthuvan

The Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur’s Social Communications Office hosted a one-day, interactive Social Media workshop at the La Salle Hall, Petaling Jaya on the 2nd of December 2023.

The facilitator, Singaporean Media Consultant, Trainer, and former Executive Producer at Chanel New Asia, Augustine Anthuvan, trained 28 participants from various parishes in the diocese on Creative Writing, Social Media Content Writing, and Speech Writing.

From the get-go, Augustine, an experienced writer driven by a fervent dedication to fostering creativity, established the ambiance by highlighting the pivotal role of a supportive community in the writing realm.

One of the highlights during the workshop was using pictures and questions to think in new ways about the stories. The participants had fun trying different writing ideas that sparked their creativity. It was amazing to see the various ideas unfolding from just one prompt, showing how much we can imagine and create.

During the second session, the attendees were paired in twos and tasked to record a 60-second segment on reporting death by suicide. The intense and often uncomfortable topic helped the participants think about the importance of their roles in the communities.

In the final session, Augustine asked the trainees to create an invitation aimed at reconnecting with Catholics who may have drifted away, encouraging them to return for Christmas Mass. Additionally, they reflected on their writing journey in the workshop and set goals for their future endeavours.
